Abita Mardi Gras Bock

Abita's Bock is brewed to be released early in the year, and is very popular with the New Orleans locals during Mardi Gras, thus the moniker...

Located less than 30 miles from Bourbon Street, Abita also produces a very fine root beer. They brew this heavily malted beer to be similar to a German Maibock, which has a slightly higher alcohol content. In my opinion, the 6.5% ABV actually detracted from the taste of the brew, and I consider this to be my least favorite Abita to date. It is peach in color with a thick lacy head, but smells almost musty. The consistency is a bit thin  and there are some slightly bitter/sour notes despite the heavy malts. Unfortunately disappointed with this one, but maybe I just need to try it on tap...
