Butternuts Snapperhead IPA


I haven't quite decided what to make of this brewery yet, so I guess it is going to take a few more of their brews to make a final decision...

Butternuts Snapperhead IPA is a golden orange color with a huge head of off white foam - that never fades! This beer smells more of pale malt than hops, and the taste is more malty than any other IPA I have ever sampled. The malt flavoring is very good, and there is a little grassy hop bite in the finish.

Butternuts explains on their website that this deviation from traditional IPAs is intended...the whole leaf hops are added near the end of the brewing process so the beer has less time to absorb their flavor and aroma. I always respect breweries for trying new things, but I feel like this defeats the purpose of an IPA and I was disappointed...
