Flying Dog Old Scratch Amber

For being less than 5 hours away, it can be REALLY difficult to find stuff from Flying Dog! Fortunately, everything I have sampled from them has been well worth the search!

Flying Dog Old Scratch Amber Lager is a copper colored brew with a two-finger off-white head of large bubbles. This beer leaves a lacy crown all down the glass as you drink it, and has the aroma of caramel malt and oak with light vanilla overtones.

The mouthfeel of the beer is light, but there is some serious malt flavor going on here. I even pick up some grainy wheat textures and tastes in the finish. Self-described as "malty and mellow", this 5.5% ABV brew is balanced with some light hopping (19.5 IBUs), but the sweet malt is delicious!
